Fun, Fireworks on Tap for Holiday Weekend

Jun 30, 2021 ● By Lisa Ferguson

There will be no shortage of family-friendly events and activities happening throughout Frisco for those who wish to turn this Independence Day holiday into a weekend-long celebration.

The Frisco Roughriders, the Class AA minor league baseball team of the Texas Rangers, will host not one, not two but three post-game pyrotechnic displays after taking the field at 7:05 p.m. July 2, 3 and 4 against the Midland RockHounds. Players will also sport themed jerseys in honor of “Stars and Stripes Weekend” at Riders Field, 7300 Roughriders Trail, Frisco. Ticket info is available at milb.com/frisco.

Live-sports action continues Saturday when the Indoor Football League’s Frisco Fighters take on the Massachusetts Pirates beginning at 7:05 p.m. at Comerica Center, 2601 Avenue of the Stars, Frisco. For tickets, visit friscofighters.com

Also Saturday night, a cornhole tournament (scheduled at 6 p.m.) and the annual Frisco Dachshund Dash (7:30 p.m.) will serve as a warmup for the Hotter ‘n Firecrackers 5K & Glow Run (9 p.m.). Wear the brightest neon gear you can find for this run through Frisco Square. Besides earning a finisher medal, all runners will receive a LED headband, other glowing items and an event t-shirt. Winners in each race category will be awarded custom medals. Walkers and dogs (the latter must be fully vaccinated and on a leash) are also welcomed to participate. To register, visit friscofreedomfest.org/156/5K-Run.

Frisco Freedom Fest is set to kick off at 3 p.m. Sunday with the Taste of Frisco, featuring food from various restaurants throughout the city. It will be followed at 4 p.m. by the Party in the Plaza (Simpson Plaza), featuring a classic car show, Sports City U.S.A. amusements and rides, a Hometown Heroes Exhibit and the Vendor Village. Additional details are available at friscofreedomfest.org.

Frisco Rail Yard, 9040 First St., will host a 4th of July celebration all its own beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday. Live music will be performed by the band Emerson, and food and beverages will be available for purchase. Stick around to view the city’s firework display later that evening. Visit friscorailyard.net for more information.

Speaking of fireworks … Frisco’s sure-to-be fantastic display is scheduled to begin at approximately 9:45 p.m. The pyrotechnics will be launched from Toyota Stadium following a Major League Soccer matchup between hometown favorite FC Dallas and Vancouver Whitecaps FC, which is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Game and ticket information is available at fcdallas.com.
