Arts of Collin County Receives $500,000 Open Space Grant

Collin County Commissioner Matt Shaheen attended the Arts of Collin County Commission Board of Directors meeting on August 19, 2010 to present a check for $500,000 to the Arts of Collin County. The Open Space Fund matching grant will fund construction of the Six City Hike and Bike Trail through the Arts Park located along the Sam Rayburn Tolllway (Hwy. 121) just one half mile east of Custer. The trail runs along the West side of Rowlett Creek and will have a bridge that connects along “no name” Creek to the Ridgeview Trail on south side of the project site. In addition a parking lot will be provided for trail users.
The Arts of Collin County is excited to begin this wonderful part of the project creating opportunities for all to experience the arts park site in its natural state. “The Six City Hike and Bike Trail is a significant collaborative effort and this connection will be an integral part of the Six City Trail that one day will connect all the way to White Rock Lake,” states Mike Simpson, executive director of the Arts of Collin County.
Construction is expected to begin later this fall and be completed by early spring 2011. Visitors to the Arts of Collin County will have access to stroll or ride along Rowlett Creek through a beautiful part of the project site.
