The GRN works to protect wetlands from reckless development, destructive logging practices, and harmful U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects and policies. The Gulf of Mexico has lost approximately 50% of its historic wetlands, and those remaining are under increasing threat.
Wetlands loss often leads to declining water quality, a loss of habitat for wildlife and commercial fisheries species, and increased vulnerability to hurricanes and floods for coastal communities. By fighting destructive Army Corps of Engineers projects, reviewing permit applications to destroy wetlands, advocating for coastal restoration, and providing technical assistance to citizen groups, the GRN is working hard to protect Gulf wetlands.

May 7: Texas Democratic Women - Host Arianna Huffington at Plano Convention Center
Texas Democratic Women of North Dallas & Collin County and
The Dallas County Democratic Party
HOST ARIANNA HUFFINGTON at Plano Convention Center
Plano TX - Texas Democratic Women will be hosting a lecture by Arianna Huffington, co-founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post. She is a nationally syndicated columnist, author of eleven books and co-host of ”Left, Right & Center," public radio's popular political roundtable program.
Huffington will be introducing her new book “The Right is Wrong - How the Lunatic Fringe Hijacked America, Shredded the Constitution and Made Us All Less Safe” on May 7, 2008, Reception at 5:30pm followed by 7 –9pm Lecture & Book Signing at Plano Convention Center 2000 E Spring Creek Parkway Plano. Ms. Huffington details exactly how we have been spun and talking-pointed to this current predicament, starting with her colleagues in the media. She takes them to task for not connecting dots, following up, and simply not doing their job. Rather than rest the blame on Fox, Huffington points to how coverage at CNN, the NEW YORK TIMES, and even PBS and NPR have contributed to the problem. Huffington's "take no prisoners" approach spares few, including John McCain, whose stances on many of today's top issues she feels deviate very little from the failed policies of the Bush administration.
From taxes to torture, stem-cell research to flawed energy policies, and Iraq to Iran, Huffington addresses each issue with facts, indignation, and a healthy dose of wit.
In May 2005, Huffington launched The Huffington Post, a news and blog site that has quickly become one of the most widely-read, linked to, and frequently-cited media brands on the Internet. She was named to the Time 100, Time Magazine's list of the world's most influential people in 2006.
