“Simply the best. Better than all the rest.” Can you remember Tina Turner belting out those lyrics? I’ve heard that anthem replayed for any number of celebrations, always to great enthusiasm.
My sister and I, both Kansas alums, were fortunate to kiss our husbands and children goodbye for a weekend last month and head to San Antonio for the men’s NCAA Final Four tournament games. I have mentioned before what a fan I am of Kansas basketball and to have the opportunity to experience the best four college teams play arguably the best games in tournament history was very exciting. But what impressed me more than even the best basketball was the overall experience. The fans of all four teams were class acts, genuinely supporting all four teams. Congratulations could be heard shouted across the Riverwalk from UCLA fans to North Carolina fans. Diners stopped us as we walked past in our KU colors with thumbs raised in support.
In addition to well-behaved fans I could not have wished for a better host city. San Antonio was so accommodating, friendly, helpful and safe, right down to the police officers patrolling on foot and directing traffic. Even the weather was picture perfect.
At Frisco STYLE we have the privilege of regularly admiring the ‘best’ in our city and this year is no different. In this, our 5th Annual Best of Frisco, we have fun creating and offering our suggestions for some of the best people, places and things Frisco has to offer.
In the past five years we have identified people and businesses that make a lasting impression on our city through their contributions and we are all grateful to enjoy them. We have also had fun with locations and icons of the city. Some we have identified this year as Still the Best due to their enduring stature. When you read this year’s Best of Frisco, beginning on page 46, consider any additional categories you would suggest as the best and let us know on friscostyle.com. We’ll check them out for next year.
I must also acknowledge all my fellow Jayhawk fans who have recently found their voice as a result of the victory at the “End of the Road” in San Antonio. Your emails of support continue to grow the Texas Jayhawk Nation. As you can imagine, my sister and I thought the best team won. Go Jayhawks!
